Last week, 9to5Google’s Kyle Bradshaw (fellow code diver) uncovered evidence of a third-party keyboard in the works for Chrome OS. While this, in and of itself, is hardly newsworthy. The name attached to the new peripheral device is more than noteworthy. Add mappings for “Hamburger” and “Assistant” keys on Hammer/Wand/Whiskers and BRYDGE keyboards.

Oct. 9th #madebygoogle Descends On New York
Well, we knew it was coming and the recent rumors have now been confirmed as fact. Google will be moving their annual hardware event to the Big Apple. Invites have just been sent out to what is being officially dubbed the “Made by Google Launch Event” and not only has the venue changed, Google has […]
Continue ReadingChromebook Tablet Fingerprint Render Shows Side-Mounted Scanner and Thin Bezels
We’re currently working on gathering all the new goodies currently available in Chrome OS 70 in the Developer Channel. Since our last video on the subject, the developers have been VERY busy fixing issues and adding more features by the boatload. One feature in particular that we’ve talked about already – fingerprint scanner integration – […]
Continue ReadingChromebook Tablets Getting Proper Desktop Mode In Chrome OS 70
Sure, the landscape of Chrome OS tablets is pretty lonely for the moment. Acer’s Chromebook Tab 10 is the only completely-tablet option available right now, but devices like HP’s Chromebook x2 and the upcoming #madebyGoogle ‘Nocturne’ are both devices many users will interact with in tablet mode frequently.
Continue ReadingGoogle Assistant Shows Up In The App Launcher
A little over two weeks ago, Gabriel posted about the addition of the Google Assistant coming to the Chrome OS App Launcher. As Chromebooks all eagerly await the arrival of the Google Assistant (apart from the Pixelbook), we may be seeing the first sign of how it will get integrated across the board in Chrome […]
Continue ReadingHow To Use Google Photos In The Chrome OS Files App
This particular feature of Chrome OS has likely been around for quite some time. To be honest, I’m not sure how long users have had access to this option, but I’ve simply not known it was possible and I can’t believe I’ve not been using it this whole time! Just the other day I was […]
Continue ReadingChrome OS Adding Fingerprint Opt-in Setup
A Chromebook equipped with a fingerprint sensor has been a long time coming. As far back as September of 2016, we’ve tracked multiple devices that have added support for the biometric capability but it wasn’t until October of 2017 that we really expected to see this feature on a device. Much to our dismay, the […]
Continue ReadingDell Inspiron Chromebook 14 Convertible: Dell Is Back In The Game
I’m not kidding, just yesterday Gabriel and I were discussing the painful absence of Dell in the consumer Chromebook market. With the two and a half year gap since their last mid/high range Chromebook (the beloved Dell Chromebook 13), we were beginning to wonder if Dell was simply done with consumer Chromebooks.
Continue ReadingAcer Did It! New Chromebook 14 Announced At IFA
Almost a year ago to the day, I penned a little opinion piece beckoning Acer to refresh one of my favorite Chromebooks. Since that time, Acer has gone on a tear and launched a whole arsenal of devices. The world’s first Chrome OS tablet, a pair of Pixelbook competitors and even a premium redesign of […]
Continue ReadingChromebook Gaming Around the Corner As Steam Adds Support For Windows Games on Linux
Just yesterday Gabriel posted an article about 3 Chromebook devices being developed with AMD chipsets and how that entire segment of devices is progressing. The conversation around these upcoming AMD-powered devices always devolves into a pretty predictable question: what good is more GPU support on a Chromebook? As it turns out, the stars are aligning […]
Continue Reading3 New AMD Chromebooks In The Works
The world of Chrome OS is currently on fire with news of new features and devices with every turn you take. At the forefront, of course, are the rumored Pixelbook devices we are all hoping and praying to see at Google’s hardware event expected to happen in early October. Then there’s Cheza. The first-ever SnapDragon-powered […]
Continue ReadingChrome OS 70 Brings Massive UI Overhaul For Tablets: Android Pie and Material Design Everywhere [VIDEO]
That title should tell you a ton about the contents of this article and video. It is crammed full of descriptive words and much longer than we generally make titles. For this article and video, however, it is absolutely fitting as the newest update to our favorite operating system is an absolutely massive one.
Continue ReadingChrome OS 68 Arrives, Again
Two weeks ago, the Chrome OS team pulled the trigger on the update to version 68 of our favorite operating system but alas, all was not well. In the days following, most users were able to receive the update but a nasty bug promted the team of developers to halt the release due some pretty […]
Continue ReadingHow To Enable Android Messages Dark Mode For Chromebooks
If you didn’t already know, Android Messages is available on just about any device running Chrome, not just Chromebooks. The overall usability has been pretty great for me and I’d assume many of you out there are taking advantage of Android Messages on the web. For Chromebook users, the ability to set this to simply […]
Continue ReadingQualcomm Snapdragon 845 Chromebook ‘Cheza’ Gets Google Assistant Button, New Keyboard Layout
From time to time, Chromebooks we track in the repositories end up taking unexpected shifts or getting scrapped altogether. It’s almost impossible to say why, but things don’t always work out the way we expect them to. Such is the case – at least in part – with the Chromebook we only know as ‘Cheza’ […]
