If you follow the typical Google hardware cycle, you probably have a mental calendar set for specific device launches. We usually see new flagships in the fall and the budget-friendly A-series arriving sometime in the spring—typically around Google I/O. However, a new report suggests that Google might be shaking things up this year with the Pixel 10a.
According to a post on Bluesky by the reliable leaker Roland Quandt (via 9to5Google), the Pixel 10a could be hitting retail shelves as early as “mid-February.” For context, the Pixel 9a was announced in mid-March of last year before seeing a wider release in April. Moving the timeline up by a full month (or more) is a surprising move, but given Quandt’s solid track record with these sorts of leaks, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case.
A splash of color
Beyond the release date, the leak also shed some light on the color choices for this year’s budget Pixel. Quandt says the device will be available in 128GB and 256GB storage configurations and will come in four colors: Obsidian (black), Fog (off-white), Lavender (purple), and a new addition called Berry.
You might recognize “Berry” from the new Google Home Speaker and Nest Cam (3rd Gen) announced last year. If the phone matches that hue, we are looking at a vibrant red option that would definitely stand out!

A confusing strategy?
While an earlier launch is exciting, it does raise some questions about where the Pixel 10a fits in the current lineup. Early reports suggest this device might be a very modest upgrade, potentially sticking with the same design as its predecessor and, more disappointingly, possibly lacking a Tensor chip upgrade.
If the Pixel 10a lands in February with older silicon and a recycled design, it puts the device in a strange spot relative to the Pixel 9a that is currently on sale. We will have to wait and see how Google prices and positions this phone, but with a potential launch just weeks away, we likely won’t have to wait long to find out.
