For months, we’ve tracked code commits in the Chromium Gerrit, analyzed hardware benchmark leaks, and pieced together Google’s ambitious plans to bridge the worlds of ChromeOS and Android under a brand-new desktop platform.
Today, the wait for official confirmation is over: Google has officially invited us to the in-person Googlebook media preview event in New York City on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
What Google is preparing for the event
According to the event itinerary, this is – as expected – a full-fledged hardware showcase. Here’s what we were told to expect:
- Keynote from Google Leadership: Google will formally introduce the new computing platform, the software architecture, and the vision behind uniting ChromeOS web productivity with the native Android code base.
- OEM Partner Demo Stations: Attendees will get hands-on access to test out the hardware and new platform features from each of Google’s launch OEM partners.
- Media Sandbox & Hands-On Access: We’ll have direct access to photograph, film, and benchmark the initial wave of devices in person.
The countdown to launch begins
After months of analyzing code codenames like ‘Sapphire’, ‘Quartz’, ‘Mica’, and more, seeing Google officially put a date on the calendar makes this platform shift feel very real. We are packing our bags for New York, and we cannot wait to share everything with you the minute Google allows us to!
