Acer teases its first Googlebook at IFA ahead of Google’s press event

With Google’s private media event in New York City less than two weeks away, the hardware partners slated to show off devices are starting to drop hints in plain sight.

We’ve already tracked leaks pointing to launch laptops from Lenovo, HP, Dell, Asus, and Acer. But during its IFA 2026 press showcase in Berlin, Acer decided not to wait for Google’s stage to break its silence. At least a little bit, anyway.

According to a report over at Android Authority, Acer officially confirmed that its very first Googlebook is “coming soon,” sharing a brief teaser image of the machine alongside its other IFA announcements.

While Acer kept tight-lipped on any real details about the device, this public acknowledgment at a massive tech show makes the upcoming platform shift feel more tangible than ever.

A tease and not much more

The fleeting glimpse Acer provided doesn’t reveal too much, but it confirms a few things. First, this first Acer Googlebook will definitely be a convertible. You can tell from the hinges that this isn’t just a clamshell and it will be able to take advantage of a 2-in-1 hinge for tent and tablet modes.

Second, Acer’s teaser showcases a Google Pixel phone resting right beside the laptop. This feels like a deliberate nod to the cross-device continuity baked into the platform that includes features like Continue On and Play Services integration – allowing phone calls, text threads, and active app sessions to transfer seamlessly to the desktop.

While they choose to highlight a Pixel phone here, this sort of cross-device fluidity will obviously extend to all Android devices and even iPhone as well.

What we know about Acer’s Googlebook specs

While Acer didn’t leak any internal specs along with this tease, we already have a solid idea of what’s powering this laptop under the hood based on earlier retail leaks and code commits. Codenamed “Moonstone” (model GP714-91N), Acer’s 14-inch Googlebook is expected to feature:

• Intel Core Ultra 5 / Panther Lake Silicon: Giving the machine serious x86 compute muscle, top-tier efficiency, and a dedicated NPU for on-device Gemini tasks.
• 14-inch 120Hz OLED Display: Moving past the 60Hz LCD panels of previous Chromebooks to deliver fast refresh rates, inky blacks, and rich color reproduction.
• 16GB of RAM & 256GB SSD: Generous memory headroom designed to handle heavy multi-window desktop workflows, native Android apps, and full desktop Chrome extensions without skipping a beat.

The countdown to September 15

Acer’s teaser at IFA signals the start of what promises to be a groundbreaking hardware showcase.
