ASUS Googlebook CX9406 leak reveals early pricing, Core Ultra 5 and a 16GB RAM model

When the first benchmarks and regulatory filings for the ASUS Googlebook CX9406 surfaced earlier this month, the specs we had access to were loaded and the device already looked pretty amazing with an ultra-light ceramic-alloy chassis, Intel Panther Lake silicon, and up to a crazy 64GB of RAM.

While that 64GB flagship made for flashy headlines and tells us that Google and its OEM partners aren’t messing around, it also raised an obvious practical concern as devices with this much RAM and crazy-high price tags are out of the realm of reality for most buyers. But that “up to” statistic looks likely to be just an indication of potential for this upcoming Googlebook.

Thanks to a new retail discovery by GbookHub, we have a look at a more-reasonable spec layout for the ASUS Googlebook we expect to finally see in September. Early product listings have appeared on Canadian retailer databases, revealing a more realistic 16GB RAM and Core Ultra 5 tier alongside our first real-world look at retail pricing.

What the retail listing confirms

According to product catalog data spotted on Canadian retailer site PC-Canada, this latest, leaked configuration carries the model number CX9406CAA-DSU51T-CB. The listing details key hardware parameters that flesh out what we can expect to see from ASUS’s Googlebook lineup:

  • Intel Core Ultra 5 325: Moving to Intel’s Panther Lake Core Ultra 5 processor gives buyers a strong balance of multi-threaded computing power, integrated graphics, and a discrete 47 TOPS NPU without the thermal and cost overhead of the top-tier Core Ultra 7.
  • 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM: Paired with high-speed memory, this 16GB configuration provides plenty of bandwidth for local Gemini AI tasks and heavy multi-tab Chrome browsing.
  • 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD: Instead of cutting storage down to 128GB or 256GB, ASUS is equipping even this configuration with a generous 512GB high-speed NVMe drive.
  • 14.0-inch Touchscreen with Glowbar: Both the expected 16:10 touchscreen and lid-mounted Glowbar are along for the ride.
  • Early Retail Pricing: Listed at $1,915.99 CAD, which translates directly to roughly $1,399 USD.

This sort of direct monetary conversion doesn’t always hold up, however, and I think we could realistically see this price point for this configuration vary between $1100 and $1400 when it actually launches. We’ll have to wait for the full unveiling to know specific pricing in the US.

What we can glean from this leak

Seeing a 16GB / Core Ultra 5 configuration surface alongside the previously benchmarked 32GB and 64GB models tells us a lot about how ASUS plans to position its hardware in retail stores:

  • A True Tiered Lineup: Rather than treating the CX9406 as a single, ultra-niche $2,000 halo device, ASUS is offering a full spread of configurations. Power users will still be able to opt for the 64GB Core Ultra 7 beast, while everyday professionals can choose the Core Ultra 5 model for daily productivity.
  • No More Budget Storage Compromises: 512GB NVMe storage as standard on a Googlebook proves this platform is built for heavy offline files, Android app installations, and pro creative workflows.
  • Establishing the “AL Premium” Price Bracket: When you pair this possible $1,399 USD conversion with the previously leaked 256GB Acer Googlebook 14 at roughly $1,200 (that listing has since been pulled down), the broader pricing picture comes a bit more into focus with first-wave Intel Panther Lake Googlebooks likely landing between $1,100 and $1,400.

With Google’s September 15 media showcase in NYC less than a month away, retail listings are probably going to continue to pop up across the globe as partners finalize their launch catalogs. We’ll be keeping a close eye on retail channels as official US pricing solidifies, so stay tuned to Chrome Unboxed for more updates!
