The floodgates for Googlebook hardware are officially opening. Just days after the initial leak of Lenovo’s Googlebook lineup that was followed up by detailed press renders of Lenovo’s Googlebook 15, images and marketing details for the first ASUS Googlebook have surfaced as well; and this machine is shaping up to be another stunning showcase of both material engineering and raw performance.
Leaked via an early listing on the iF Design website (now removed) and initially spotted by 9to5Google, the ASUS Googlebook CX9406 combines a sub-1-kilogram “Ultra-Ceramic” chassis with top-tier hardware specs that prove Google’s upcoming desktop OS isn’t messing around in the slightest.




“Ultra-Ceramic” Alloy with sub-1kg portability
ASUS has never been shy about experimenting with premium materials from magnesium-lithium alloys to high-tech ceramic finishes on its ExpertBook line – and I’ve been impressed in the past as I’ve reviewed their higher-end Chromebooks. For the CX9406, ASUS is introducing an Ultra-Ceramic Light Alloy that claims to be 34% lighter and 13% stronger than traditional aluminum.
That material choice allows the CX9406 to hit a total chassis weight of under 1 kilogram (2.2 lbs) while maintaining the structural rigidity required for daily travel. Visually, the dark carbon finish pairs beautifully with Google’s mandated Glowbar light strip mounted along the top display bezel, giving the laptop a sleek, professional aesthetic.
Intel Panther Lake and up to 64GB RAM
While early Chromebooks built their reputation on affordability and lightweight specs for simple cloud browsing, Googlebook is taking a completely different approach. Geekbench and Energy Star listings clearly show the ASUS ‘Lapis’ device details (a development board we’ve had our eyes on for the better part of 2026) and confirm that the CX9406 is built on Intel’s next-gen Panther Lake (Core Ultra) architecture and supports up to 64GB of LPDDR5X RAM.
Having 64GB of RAM in a sub-two-pound laptop might sound like overkill for traditional web tasks, but it makes complete sense for the Googlebook era, where Google will be leaning heavily into things like:
- Local NPU AI Processing: Running on-device Gemini models, screen reasoning, and Magic Pointer cursor context without hitting memory ceilings.
- Heavy Multitasking: Keeping dozens of desktop Chrome tabs, background Android apps, and system automation tools active simultaneously.
- Pro Creative Suites: Smoothly executing resource-heavy desktop apps like Adobe Premiere Pro and Canva without breaking a sweat.
Solid port selection in a lightweight frame
Despite its thin profile and sub-1kg weight, ASUS didn’t strip away essential connectivity. Leaked renders confirm the CX9406 features:
- Full-size HDMI output for external displays
- Dual USB-C ports for high-speed charging and data
- Full-size USB-A port for legacy accessories
- 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio
Seeing ASUS and Lenovo finalizing marketing renders and design listings is a clear signal that retail availability is right around the corner. Combining a 2.2-pound ceramic alloy chassis with 64GB of RAM and Intel Panther Lake silicon makes the ASUS Googlebook CX9406 yet another incredible-looking Googlebook entry we hope to see very soon.
