Having tracked ChromeOS hardware development for well over a decade – from early experimental prototypes to modern Chromebook Plus flagships – we are no strangers to watching hardware leaks unfold ahead of major platform launches. But today’s leak from Android Headlines isn’t just a minor spec bump or a single device listing. It gives us our clearest look yet at Lenovo’s launch strategy for the upcoming Googlebook platform, revealing at least three distinct devices and an already-leaked dedicated accessory.
Among the trio of leaked hardware, one stand-out device caught my eye immediately: a detachable 2-in-1 tablet that aligns precisely with everything we’ve been tracking around the long-rumored ‘Sapphire’ Googlebook. Since September of 2025, before we knew anything about Googlebook at all, we knew a MediaTek Kompanio Ultra tablet was on the way, and now we get to see it in the flesh.
Three Lenovo Googlebooks, one unified vision
Based on the leaked images, Lenovo is going all-in for the initial Googlebook rollout. Rather than testing the waters with a single laptop, Lenovo appears to be preparing a complete lineup:
- Traditional Googlebook Clamshells: Standard laptop form factors (I’m guessing a 13/14-inch and a 15/16-inch variant) boasting sleek chassis design and the platform-mandated “Googlebook” branding prominently stamped on the deck below the keyboard.
- Interesting Glow Bar placements: Between the two device types, we get a couple interesting implementations of the Googlebook Glow Bar on the reverse of the displays of both the clamshells and near the camera module for the tablet.
- Dedicated “G” Key & Branding: The leaked keyboard layouts showcase a dedicated “G” key where a traditional Windows/Launcher key would sit (just like we have on Chromebook), as well as distinct Googlebook badging that confirms Google’s strict baseline hardware requirements for OEM partners.
- The 2-in-1 Detachable Tablet: A versatile tablet form factor equipped with a quad-speaker Dolby Atmos setup, support for some sort of recharging stylus (likely USI), and a detachable keyboard folio.
Seeing a major manufacturing partner commit to multiple form factors right out of the gate is a massive vote of confidence for the platform. It mirrors what we’ve seen in the Chromebook ecosystem over the years: when OEMs offer varied form factors from day one, consumer adoption tends to happens much faster. And it also means Lenovo and the other OEMs are likely fully bought-in on what Google has planned with the Googlebook platform.

This is 100% the ‘Sapphire’ detachable we’ve been tracking
Since September of 2025, we’ve been digging through code commits in the Chromium Gerrit, tracking a high-end detachable device codenamed ‘Sapphire’. Notably, in our most recent coverage, we noted that ‘Sapphire’ entered its final testing phase earlier this summer as a flagship 2-in-1 built to showcase the full range of what Googlebook can do.
Seeing this 2-in-1 tablet complete with a dedicated pen and detachable keyboard deck is simply the final confirmation that ‘Sapphire’ is a high end device, is made by Lenovo, comes with a pen, and will make for one striking entry in the initial Googlebook wave.
Having tested every single major ChromeOS tablet over the years – from the Pixel Slate to the Lenovo Chromebook Duet series – we know that 2-in-1 detachables live or die by their input flexibility and software optimization. Combining a lightweight tablet, magnetically charging pen, detachable keyboard folio, a large 13-inch screen, quad speaker setup, Googlebook’s brand-new OS, and Gemini Intelligence should make this new tablet an absolute beast in every single way.
The Lenovo AI Mouse makes another appearance
The leaks also offered another detailed look at the Lenovo AI Mouse, which previously surfaced in FCC filings. Designed specifically for the Googlebook ecosystem, the 59g wireless mouse features an ambient RGB light strip and a physical “AI Key” positioned right below the scroll wheel.
As we discussed when evaluating what ‘Googlebook Certified’ accessories will look like, having a physical hardware trigger for features like Magic Pointer or Gemini side-panel solves a big hurdle in desktop AI: friction. Instead of memorizing complex keyboard shortcuts, having a single click on your mouse to invoke screen awareness features makes using AI far more effortless during daily workflows.
What this means for launch timing
We fully expect Google to host a proper launch event for Googlebook. Though IFA is kicking off in a few weeks, don’t expect to see these new devices there. With Googlebook being a completely new laptop category for both Google and the OEMs, this group of devices will be getting the full unveiling treatment.
While pricing remains unconfirmed (especially given ongoing memory supply adjustments across the tech industry), Google has made it clear that Googlebooks will occupy a distinctly premium tier above Chromebooks. These devices will likely be incredible, but also pricey.
We will be tracking every update we can find as always, and as we head closer to the fall launch window, hopefully we’ll hear from Google about a defined launch event. And as excited as I am for all Googlebooks, I’m 10x more pumped to get my hands on whatever Lenovo chooses to call ‘Sapphire’. The hype level is off the charts right now for us here at Chrome Unboxed, so stay tuned!
