I banged this drum a bit a couple weeks ago, but another big reason has emerged to prove the point that the Snapdragon X Plus just belongs in a future Chromebook. Thanks to a report from VideoCardz, we now know the estimated cost of the X Plus SoC, and it isn't just competitive with Intel's bigger … [Read more...] about Snapdragon X Plus costs less than I expected and would be a great fit for Chromebooks

ChromeOS 124’s settings search is far smarter than I thought
With ChromeOS 124 came the new, overhauled settings app as well. With this new system app, your Chromebook settings are finally parsed out into proper sections instead of being one, long feed of toggles and buttons. It feels far more on-brand for Google and, once again, gives some design alignment … [Read more...] about ChromeOS 124’s settings search is far smarter than I thought

Why I’m testing a Flex 3i in preparation for the next Chromebook tablet
It feels like we can't be too far from the launch of the next wave of more-powerful Chromebook tablets. Yes, I know there's a new ASUS Chromebook CM30 tablet that launched back in January, but that isn't what I'm after at this point. The updated MediaTek Kompanio 520 in that device is a nice upgrade … [Read more...] about Why I’m testing a Flex 3i in preparation for the next Chromebook tablet
The dearth of Chromebook deals this week proves a very good point
I'm generally not one to say I told you so, but in this case, I'm going to be that guy. I told you so. Over the last few weeks, we've had a wild parade of great Chromebook deals that have made purchasing a new device for yourself or a loved one an easier-than-normal affair. But I've ended every … [Read more...] about The dearth of Chromebook deals this week proves a very good point
Google Play Store simultaneous downloads are here for Chromebooks
While most people don't tend to set up a new Chromebook nearly as often as someone like myself does, all ChromeOS users have to deal with the initial onslaught of Android app downloads when they log into a new Chromebook, a borrowed one, or a freshly-powerwashed device. It's part of the overall … [Read more...] about Google Play Store simultaneous downloads are here for Chromebooks
Google Sans font is coming for the rest of your Chromebook
Over the past few months, as the Material You design language has taken over most parts of the ChromeOS UI, you may have noticed a new font being injected in many parts of your Chromebook. That font - a far more rounded and Google-y typeface than the current Roboto we've had for years - is called … [Read more...] about Google Sans font is coming for the rest of your Chromebook
I’m loving the new ChromeOS Focus Mode: here’s how to try it
A new feature on the way to ChromeOS - Focus Mode - arrived in the Canary Channel a full 4 months ago at this point. As you couldn't access it in any other channel at the time, I took a look at it, fiddled around with it for a bit, and headed back to the safety of the Stable Channel and left Focus … [Read more...] about I’m loving the new ChromeOS Focus Mode: here’s how to try it
Why a Snapdragon X Plus Chromebook would be amazing
Qualcomm's powerful new Snapdragon X Elite has generated a lot of buzz in the laptop space of late. With promises of next-level performance and efficiency, it's quickly become a compelling alternative to traditional x86 processors and - on paper at least - a real competitor to what Apple's done with … [Read more...] about Why a Snapdragon X Plus Chromebook would be amazing
Why I still prefer a vertical multi-monitor Chromebook setup
I finished up my review process for the last of the new Chromebook Plus devices a few weeks back, and I was so excited to get back to a desktop setup that would have me use a laptop stand, wireless keyboard/mouse, and that would arrange my Chromebook up to the side of my main desktop monitor. I've … [Read more...] about Why I still prefer a vertical multi-monitor Chromebook setup

This needed Chromebook feature could tempt me back to Pixel
It's no secret that I've long since left the Pixel community for Samsung. What started with a move to the excellent Galaxy S23 has culminated in my having the Galaxy Z Fold 5 in my pocket for a solid 5 months at this point and there's no urge in me to change to anything else in the near term. I … [Read more...] about This needed Chromebook feature could tempt me back to Pixel
