It’s always a great sign when a newly-announced Chromebook makes a splash, but it’s another thing entirely when it sells out almost immediately. The new Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 was just officially unveiled at the beginning of this week, and as of this morning, a quick check of Lenovo’s own website shows that it is already listed as temporarily sold out.
While it’s impossible to know exact inventory numbers, seeing a device disappear this quickly is a very, very good sign. It’s clear that the combination of features, power, and price that this Chromebook brings to the table is strongly resonating with buyers right out of the gate.
Why this isn’t a huge surprise
Even without having published our full review, it’s easy to see why the excitement for this particular Chromebook is so high. On paper, the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 is an absolute beast. It’s the first device to feature the powerful new MediaTek Kompanio Ultra, an ARM chip that promises desktop-class performance in a fanless design.
When you couple that powerhouse processor with the rest of the announced spec sheet, you have a recipe for success:
- A gorgeous 14-inch OLED display
- A claimed, record-breaking 17-hour battery life
- The first-ever Dolby Atmos support on a Chromebook Plus
- Premium hardware touches like a fingerprint scanner
With a starting price of just $649 for this level of hardware, it’s not hard to see why early adopters are jumping at the chance to get their hands on one. It’s a combination of features we simply haven’t seen before in a single Chromebook package.
You can still get one (for now)
If you were hoping to snag one, don’t worry, you haven’t missed your chance entirely. While it’s currently sold out on Lenovo.com, the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 is still in stock and available for purchase over at Best Buy.
Given how quickly Lenovo’s initial stock was depleted, however, there’s no telling how long Best Buy’s inventory will last. If you’ve been eyeing this device since the announcement, now is probably the time to act.
It’s fantastic to see this level of enthusiasm for a new Chromebook launch. It proves that when you build a device with the right combination of premium features, groundbreaking performance, and a compelling price, people will show up for it. We’re excited to see how this launch continues to unfold.
