The ASUS Googlebook 14 is official: 2.18 pounds, 3K OLED, and Panther Lake power

As a part of Google’s major Googlebook launch, ASUS has officially taken the wraps off the ASUS Googlebook 14. While we already covered the broader Googlebook hardware fleet overview and explored the software foundations in our deeper dive on Googlebook OS, this machine – like all five of the first wave Googlebooks – warrants its own spotlight. Picking it up off the demo table in NYC, it was easily the most featherweight, mind-bending design of the entire lineup.

Weighing in at a mere 2.18 pounds (0.99 kg) and measuring just 0.43 inches at its thinnest point, ASUS did not sacrifice build rigidity or raw specifications to achieve that portability.

Nano Ceramic magnesium and a stunning 3K OLED

ASUS constructed the Googlebook 14 using a CNC-machined magnesium-aluminum alloy finished in a sleek “Dusk Ash” colorway, treated with proprietary Nano Ceramic Technology to guard against scratches, stains, and daily abrasions. Despite the lightweight profile, it meets US military-grade MIL-STD 810H durability standards.

The centerpiece of the device is arguably the best panel in the entire first wave of Googlebooks:

• Refresh Rate & Brightness: Smooth 120Hz refresh rate with up to 1,000 nits HDR peak brightness
• Glass Protection: Corning Gorilla Glass Victus paired with Corning Gorilla Matte anti-glare etching to eliminate reflections in bright office lighting or direct sunlight

Surrounding that display is an equally refined input and media setup. ASUS loaded the chassis with a generous 5.04″ x 3.41″ haptic glass trackpad utilizing six force sensors for uniform tactile feedback, a backlit keyboard with 1.5mm key travel, and a six-speaker audio array featuring dual force-canceling woofers, two tweeters, and Dolby Atmos support.

Intel Panther Lake silicon and no-dongle connectivity

Under the hood, the ASUS Googlebook 14 runs on Intel’s brand-new Series 3 architecture, featuring the Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processor paired with an Intel AI Boost NPU pushing up to 47 TOPS of dedicated performance. This provides plenty of horsepower to drive the new OS-level Gemini Intelligence features locally while operating at whisper-quiet sound levels under 25 dB.

The internal package also features 16GB or 32GB of high-speed LPDDR5x RAM (8533MT/s), up to a 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, and a sizable 70Wh battery rated for up to 18 hours of continuous use.

Unlike many modern ultraportables that strip away physical ports, ASUS managed to retain an exceptionally complete I/O setup around the tapered edges:

• 2 x Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports (full-function Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.4)
• 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports
• 1 x HDMI 2.1b video output
• 1 x 3.5mm combo audio jack
• Intel Wi-Fi 7 (BE211) and Bluetooth 6.0

Biometrics and system security are handled by an integrated fingerprint sensor on the power key, an FHD webcam equipped with a physical privacy shutter, and the hardware-backed Google Titan C security chip.

Pricing, pre-orders, and availability

The ASUS Googlebook 14 (CX9406CAA) starts at $1,299.99 in the United States and is available for pre-order starting today on the ASUS Store and Best Buy.

Retail availability officially begins on October 4 in the U.S., with global markets following shortly thereafter. Every retail unit includes 12 months of Google AI Pro (providing 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini Advanced access), 3 months of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop, and CapCut, 1 year of GeForce NOW, and Google’s commitment of up to 10 years of guaranteed OS updates and feature drops.
