For anyone keeping a close eye on Google’s hardware ecosystem, you might have noticed inventory for the aging Nest Audio and the entry-level Nest Mini is rapidly drying up. These older devices are currently showing as out of stock or completely unavailable at key retailers, including the official Google Store and Best Buy. Historically, this is the strongest indicator that a company is clearing the deck to make way for a replacement.
In this case, that replacement is the much-anticipated, Gemini-powered Google Home Speaker. Google briefly teased this next-generation hardware alongside the Pixel 10 series launch last year, eventually confirming in October 2025 that a new flagship speaker was actively in development. At the time, the company provided a broad “Spring 2026” release window. Considering the current state of retail inventory, that timeline appears to be lining up perfectly. It has been several years since Google significantly refreshed its core audio lineup, making a hardware update long overdue.
As the launch approaches, recent leaks have started to paint a clearer picture of when this device will actually ship. Retail listings, including a briefly published product page on Best Buy Canada, point to a launch date right around June 25. That same Canadian listing displayed a price tag of $140 CAD, which strongly suggests the speaker will land right around the $100 mark when it officially hits shelves in the United States.

When it does finally arrive, this new Google Home Speaker is poised to be a solid upgrade over the existing Nest lineup. Moving away from the older Assistant architecture, this device is being built from the ground up to support the conversational capabilities of Gemini Live. On the hardware side, it is expected to deliver immersive 360-degree audio and robust stereo pairing features.
While Google has yet to make an official announcement regarding the exact release date, the company has previously confirmed the speaker will be available in standard colorways alongside vibrant Jade and Berry options. Given the rapidly disappearing stock of current Nest devices, we expect Google to break its silence and officially unveil the new hardware in the very near future.
