With Halloween just three days away, the Made by Google team is at it again with their monster videos. They created a few funny videos last year which largely centered on monster auditions for their seasonal Nest doorbell sounds, which are back this year so we thought it would be fun to take a look at what they’ve cooked up in the Witch’s cauldron this year.
The videos mostly center on Google’s newly released Nest Audio and setting up custom routines for it to make it do Halloween related tricks (or treats) like causing your lights to flash and change colors and such. Saying to your device “Okay Google, Let’s get spooky”, will trigger Assistant to say “Okay, let the haunting begin” and play a mix of spooky sounds. If you ask your Nest Hub the same thing, you’ll get a bunch of recommended actions like “Scare Me”, in which Google will say ‘don’t look behind you, and more. You can also ask for Halloween movies by triggering the Assistant button on your new Chromecast with Google TV. I know that everyone in my house will be watching Hocus Pocus. All of this is just a bit of goofy fun that’s not really meant to be taken too seriously. Instead, the teams at Google wanted to create something that would create a lighthearted Halloween ‘spirit’ and show off a bunch of ways that Google Assistant can be helpful during the holiday season.
They published a blog post with a bunch of these types of recommendations too, and I’d say it’s worth checking out. Many of the ideas include doing things you already do with Assistant – just with a Halloween twist. Though many of these ideas may be obvious to some, unlocking the full potential of Assistant doesn’t always happen without a little help from Google. I personally underutilize the Assistant on the daily, so I’m glad to see these fun little marketing videos!
