YouTube Premium has become one of those subscriptions that is incredibly hard to live without once you’ve tried it. Going back to unskippable ads after experiencing ad-free viewing and background play is painful. But at $15.99 a month starting price in the US, it certainly doesn’t come cheap.
Fortunately, if you use a lot of Google cloud storage, you might be sitting on a massive, limited-time discount. Google One is currently running a promotion that takes 50% off a YouTube Premium subscription for 12 months. Here is what you need to know to see if you qualify and how to claim it.
Who is eligible?
This deal isn’t for everyone. Google is specifically targeting users on its higher-capacity storage plans. To be eligible for the 50% discount, you must meet the following criteria:
- Your Plan: You must be subscribed to a Google One Premium plan offering 2TB of storage or higher (starting at $9.99/month). Users on the Basic (100GB), Standard (200GB), and Google AI Plus ($7.99/mo) plans are excluded.
- Your Location: The offer is currently limited to users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, and Brazil.
- Individual Plans Only: It’s worth noting that this promotion applies to the individual YouTube Premium plan, not the Family plan.
(Note: If you are an AI Ultra subscriber, YouTube Premium is already an included perk, and AI Pro subscribers receive a different discounted rate.)
How to claim the discount
If you meet the criteria and are a new subscriber, claiming the deal is straightforward. Just head over to the Google One explore page and sign up.
However, if you are already paying for YouTube Premium and want to apply this discount to your existing account, there is a slightly annoying hoop you have to jump through. According to the terms of the deal, you must first cancel your existing YouTube Premium subscription, wait for your current billing cycle to end, and then resubscribe through the Google One portal.
The clock is ticking
If you want to take advantage of this to cut your YouTube bill in half, you can’t sit on it for long. Google has stated that this limited-time offer will expire on April 29, 2026.
If you are already paying $10 a month to back up your photos and files, you might as well take the $80 in annual savings on your YouTube habit!
