Nest Hello brings back Halloween sounds just in time for the trick-or-treating that may not happen

It’s common for homeowners to buy Halloween themed items such as a ghost that makes noise when you get close to it or a doorbell that sounds like a monster when rang so that when trick-or-treaters approach the door for candy, they’re met with a little bit of Halloween spirit. The problem is that once the holiday is over and unless these items are stored on the attic the following year, they’re usually discarded or donated to save space. Playing into their strengths of creating a ‘thoughtful home’, Nest has once again added ‘Spooky sounds’ to their Hello doorbell – just in time for Halloween.

To apply the new sounds to your doorbell, just open your Nest app and find “Doorbell theme” in the options. Then, just select “Spooky sounds”. Many of us may be enjoying these alone for fun though, because many people probably won’t be going out to knock on a stranger’s door during the pandemic and I wouldn’t recommend it either! You can be sure that I’m still going to buy the candy that I won’t be giving out though.

The Nest team added “Spooky sounds” to their doorbell last year and they were an instant hit. Being able to customize a smart device for a short time, seasonally, is a nice touch that shows both the whimsy Googlers play into while creating products and their desire to build in features that they, themselves are interested in. They even went so far as to film two promotional pieces for the spooky sounds – a monster audition and a ghost audition. Both are hilarious and you can watch them below!
