The updated Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook drops to just $199 in massive new sale

Lenovo recently gave one of our favorite budget Chromebooks a quiet but significant refresh for 2026, dropping the new MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor into the popular Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook. We recently unboxed the device and put it through its initial paces, and while it already offered great value at its standard retail price, Best Buy has just slashed the price on both configurations to new lows.

Right now, you can grab the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook (4GB/64GB) for just $199, or upgrade to the higher-end 8GB/128GB model for only $279.

The headline feature of this updated generation is the inclusion of the MediaTek Kompanio 540 chip, which delivers snappy, fluid performance for general web browsing, schoolwork, and streaming. But as with previous Slim 3 models, the real star of the show is the display.

Instead of bundling a low-resolution, washed-out panel like many manufacturers do at this price point, Lenovo equipped both models with a crisp 14-inch 16:10 WUXGA (1920×1200) IPS touchscreen pushing 400 nits of brightness. It features a solid anti-glare coating, great viewing angles, and slender bezels that give the entire laptop a far more modern look than its sub-$300 price tag implies.

You also get a comfortable, fully backlit keyboard, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, USB-C ports on both sides, and an extremely lightweight, 2.99-pound frame that makes it an ideal travel or back-to-school companion.

Which configuration should you buy?

• The $199 Entry Tier (4GB RAM / 64GB eMMC): Down from its $419 MSRP, this model is perfect for light tasks, video calls, media consumption, or a student who needs a reliable machine for Google Docs and web apps. Getting a 400-nit 1200p touchscreen under $200 is practically unheard of.
• The $279 Performance Tier (8GB RAM / 128GB UFS): Down from its $529 MSRP, stepping up to this model doubles your memory to 8GB of fast LPDDR5x RAM and swaps out standard eMMC for much faster 128GB UFS storage. If you tend to keep dozens of browser tabs open at once or want a machine that handles heavier daily workflows without breaking a sweat, the extra $80 is well worth the investment.
