Aside from last night’s widespread service outage, Youtube Music seems to be hitting their stride lately. They’ve been adding features left and right to make up for their hasty jump from the Google Play Music ship and it’s starting to feel like home for my listening needs a bit more every day. This latest update should get your friends more interested in using Youtube Music or at least entice them to take a quick listen because you’ll soon be able to share songs directly to Instagram or Snapchat stories!
In this screenshot from 9to5Google, you can see that clicking ‘share’ on a song now shows Instagram stories and Snapchat stories as options in the share sheet. Tapping on either currently crashes Youtube Music, sadly, so it’s definitely something that’s still in testing. If I had to guess what these would look like once published to their respective social networks, I would say they may include the album artwork with the song title, artist name, and a link directly to it on Youtube Music. In order to be more engaging, it will most likely play a few seconds of audio to entice people to click on it too.
Since the service recently hit 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store, it’s clear that Google is doing everything in their power to utilize their user base to engage in influencer marketing and with the explosive popularity of ‘stories’ in social networks these past few years, it’s highly likely that those close to you will check out a song that you recommend and get a taste of Google’s new music streaming golden child.
