It’s not you: YouTube, TV and Music are all down for many

November 11, 2020 By Robby Payne Leave a Comment

Let’s make this short and sweet, shall we? Just a few minutes ago while trying to stream some live TV via YouTube TV, my wife kept getting an error about the playback failing. Though my first thought was to reset my modem and router, that didn’t help things. I checked my connection speed (400MB/s down and 30MB/s up) and nothing else was having issue, and I immediately remembered one other time when YouTube TV was far younger and had a similar issue.

Turns out, it’s not just YouTube TV, it is the entire YouTube network. YouTube, YouTube TV and YouTube Music are all borked right now and, according to Down Detector, it is mainly a US problem right now. Reports have only begun rolling in within the hour, so it isn’t clear exactly what is going on and how widespread the problem actually is.

As is always the chance with these things, this may also affect other core Google services as well. While the Assistant seems to be working fine for me and Drive, Sheets, and Docs all seem to be behaving themselves for now. We’ll be keeping an eye on things over the next few hours to see when this all clears up, but for now it seems we’re on the uptick and we may just all be out of service for a bit. Stay tuned.
