Lenovo’s powerful 8.8″ Legion Tab Gen 5 gaming tablet is officially available, but it comes at a premium

Following right on the heels of the teaser landing page we covered recently, Lenovo’s latest Android gaming tablet is officially here. The new Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 is now available for purchase in the US, but getting your hands on one will require a pretty significant investment. You can grab the Eclipse Black model directly from Lenovo right now for $849.99.

While I think the $850 price tag is undeniably steep for an Android tablet, Lenovo has equipped this device with a spec sheet that should comfortably handle whatever you throw at it. Under the hood, the Gen 5 is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, paired with a capable 12GB or 16GB of fast LPDDR5T RAM and 256GB or 512GB of onboard storage. It’s also worth noting that it features a MicroSD card slot, allowing you to expand that storage up to 2TB for larger game libraries.

Up front, the tablet sports an 8.8-inch 3K (3040 x 1904) display with a 165Hz refresh rate and up to 800 nits of peak brightness. For a gaming-focused device, those are exactly the kind of numbers you want to see to ensure fluid, responsive gameplay. To keep things running smoothly, it utilizes an advanced vapor chamber cooling system and relies on a 9,000mAh battery. The battery setup also supports 68W fast charging and bypass charging, which is a great feature that lets you run the device directly from wall power during long play sessions without degrading the internal battery.

Lenovo also included dual USB-C ports (one on the long side that supports DP-out and one on the short side for charging), dual speakers with Dolby Atmos, and Android 16 right out of the box. They are also including the 68W charging adapter and a folio case in the box.

If that $850 price tag is a bit too much to stomach, keep an eye out for the older Legion Tab Gen 3. It was recently on sale for just $399, and while I’m not sure if Lenovo will restock it directly this time around, I highly recommend snagging one somewhere else if you can find it. It is still a highly capable gaming tablet that completely skips the premium price hike.

Still, if you have the budget for the absolute latest and greatest and want to easily turn an 8.8-inch screen into your primary gaming hub, the new Gen 5 is shipping now!
