We’ve seen teases of Samsung’s first Android XR headset for months now, with mentions at major events like Google I/O and MWC. For everyone who has been itching to finally see what this Vision Pro competitor is all about, it looks like the wait is nearly over. A new report from ETNews suggests we can finally circle a date on our calendars, with a rumored launch for the new headset now set for October 21st.
This device is expected to be the first to launch with Android XR, the new platform designed by Google to power the next generation of immersive headsets and smart glasses.e to power the next generation of immersive headsets and smart glasses.
What to expect from ‘Project Moohan’

“Moohan,” the Korean word for infinity, is a goggles-style device that looks to be a direct rival to the Apple Vision Pro. Samsung is promising high-quality displays and a wide field of view for truly immersive experiences. The company envisions users navigating Google Maps in 3D, enjoying enhanced live sports, getting work done (we can only hope that means a great Chromebook integration), and leveraging Gemini, all from within this new XR environment.
The report also adds that Samsung will partner with eyewear companies to offer optional corrective lenses, which strongly implies the headset won’t have room for users to wear their own glasses.
While the hardware sounds impressive, other details from the report suggest Samsung is taking a measured approach to this launch. The October 21st date is a slight pushback from a previously rumored October 13th target, and the online-only event format is a far cry from a splashy Galaxy Unpacked. The company is also reportedly only planning to sell 100,000 units by the end of the year and will be priced around $1,800 to $2,800.
While it remains to be seen how Android XR will perform in daily use, October 21st is shaping up to be a very interesting day for the future of immersive computing. With pre-orders expected to go live shortly after the announcement, we won’t have to wait long to see what the first real Android-powered Vision Pro competitor is all about.
