The Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3 that launched early this year with Android 14 has actually been receiving its Android 15 update over the past few weeks. But if this is news to you, you’re probably not alone. Lenovo rolled this one out so quietly, you’d be forgiven if it completely passed you by.
According to 9to5 Google, it seems that starting back in late March and continuing through April, Lenovo began distributing the Android 15 update to the Legion Tab (Gen 3). However, there wasn’t much in the way of an official announcement. Lenovo’s own software apparently didn’t send out a notification about the new OS version, nor did it even label the update as “Android 15.” Instead, it was simply referred to as the “17.0.10.039 stable version” update. YTechB actually reported on the roll-out as it commenced towards the end of March. Here’s the official changelog from Lenovo:
- System Optimization
- Fix SmartConnect compatibility issues
- Optimize the problem that some users do not support HD video
- Optimize WiFi 6 network compatibility
- Optimized system stability and other bug fixes
A subtle Android update
So, what does Android 15 actually bring to the Legion Tab in practice? Well, not a whole lot in terms of obvious visual changes or new, flashy features. The “back” animation when using gesture navigation has seen a slight tweak, the lock screen clock font has been updated, and there’s some spotty support for predictive back gestures in a few places. However, the overall day-to-day software experience feels largely identical to Android 14. Notably, the update does include the March 5, 2025 security patch, which is good to see.
Though quite small in nature, this update is still good for Legion Tab Gen 3 owners. Lenovo has committed to three OS upgrades for this tablet, which means users can still look forward to Android 16 and Android 17 down the line. This update commitment to updates adds to the device’s appeal, especially considering it’s currently on sale for its lowest price to date at $469.99 – a deal we highlighted recently for this smaller flagship tablet.
