Following last month’s massive Pixel Drop update and the relatively minor April 2025 Pixel Drop focused on Gemini Live’s new Astra capabilities, Google is now pushing out the April Android 15 security patch. The update is making its way to a wide range of Pixel devices today, including the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, 8, 8 Pro, 8a, and the entire new Pixel 9 lineup (9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, 9 Pro Fold). Notably, this rollout also marks the debut update for the Pixel 9a.

This month’s security bulletin addresses a substantial number of vulnerabilities. There are 31 security issues resolved in the patch level dated 2025-04-01, and another 31 addressed in the 2025-04-05 patch level. These vulnerabilities span from high to critical severity. Of particular concern are CVE-2024-53150 and CVE-2024-53197, both related to the Kernel and USB components, which Google notes “may be under limited, targeted exploitation.” Furthermore, the dedicated bulletin for Google devices details one additional security fix specific to Pixel hardware.

Alongside the global builds, Google has released specific versions for Taiwan+EMEA, Verizon, and Deutsche Telekom carriers, primarily for the Pixel 9 series. The newly released Pixel 9a receives its first build, though it’s worth noting it appears to still be based on Android 15 QPR1 and is missing some features like Modes for the time being. Here are the specific build numbers for this April update:

Beyond the crucial security fixes, this update includes several functional improvements across the Pixel lineup:

  • Biometrics: A fix addresses issues with fingerprint recognition and response under certain conditions for all eligible Pixel devices.
  • Camera: Improvements target camera stability specifically when zooming in or out under certain conditions, applicable to the Pixel 6 through 7a series and the Pixel Fold [applies to Pixel 6 and 7 series].
  • Display & Graphics: A fix resolves screen brightness flickering that could occur when using video streaming apps under specific circumstances on all eligible devices.
  • User Interface: Two UI fixes are included. The first addresses overlapping views on the lockscreen weather clock, and the second resolves an issue with the Pixel Launcher when creating or switching user profiles. Both apply to all eligible Pixel devices.

As usual, the update is rolling out OTA (over-the-air) and should reach your device in the coming days, depending on your region and carrier. You can also manually check by heading to Settings > System > System update.
