Pixel Watch 2 for $149? Why this might be the smartwatch deal to beat

For all the Android users out there who’ve been wanting to get a smartwatch but haven’t taken the plunge yet – maybe due to cost or just waiting for the right moment – now looks like a fantastic time. Google’s excellent last-gen Pixel Watch 2 is currently seeing a massive discount, dropping to just $149 at major retailers like Best Buy, Amazon, and the Google Store. That’s a whopping $100 off its more recent $249 price tag and only a few bucks more than its lowest-ever price.

Sure, the Pixel Watch 3 is out now with some nice refinements, but let me tell you, the Pixel Watch 2 is absolutely no slouch. It shares the same sleek, stylish design DNA, features the very same capable Snapdragon Wear W5 Gen 1 chip inside, and honestly, in my day-to-day use, the performance feels remarkably similar between the two generations.

You’re getting a smooth, responsive experience running the latest Wear OS 5 (when updated), complete with solid health tracking (heart rate, skin temp, stress via its multipath sensor), and Google’s helpful safety features like Fall Detection and Emergency SOS. Plus, it fixed my biggest complaint about the original Pixel Watch by delivering a reliable 24 hours of battery life, even with the always-on display active.

What are you really missing vs. the Pixel Watch 3?

So, what do you give up by going with the Pixel Watch 2? Primarily, you’re missing out on the Pixel Watch 3’s slightly larger and brighter display with smaller bezels, and some of the newest, most advanced fitness features like custom running workouts and the revamped readiness score. The Pixel Watch 3 also comes in a 45mm size, so this is something to consider if you want a beefier watch. But if those specific upgrades aren’t make-or-break features for you, the Pixel Watch 2 remains an absolutely stellar choice.

I mean, getting this level of premium smartwatch experience – the fluid software, the elegant hardware, the comprehensive health tracking – for just $149 is, frankly, a steal! The Pixel Watch 3 might be the best refinement of Google’s wearable vision so far, but the Pixel Watch 2 delivers the vast majority of that experience for a significantly lower price. For most users, especially first-time smartwatch buyers, this deal is incredibly compelling.

Now, if you do want the absolute latest and greatest, it’s worth noting the Pixel Watch 3 (41mm) is also currently discounted to $299.99 ($50 off) at Best Buy. It does offer those display and fitness refinements mentioned earlier for those who prioritize having the newest features.

But for pure value, the Pixel Watch 2 at $149 is incredibly hard to beat right now, offering a fantastic entry point into Google’s wearable ecosystem without emptying your wallet. Let me know in the comments below if you’re jumping on this deal!
