The “At a Glance” widget on Pixels has seen quite a few improvements lately with the addition of Flashlight reminders, and Nest Doorbell alerts this past month. However, it looks like Google may not be done with additions to this integral part of the Pixel experience. As discovered by 9to5Google in their APK teardown, three more features may be coming down the pike for the home screen widget.

Pixel “At a Glance” features available right now

Right now, we have eight functional features available as part of the “At a Glance” widget that address personal security and scheduling. However, according to the APK teardown done by 9to5 of version S.21 of Android System Intelligence (ASI), which is what powers the “At a Glance” widget, as well as other functions such as “Now Playing” and “Live Captions,” the below three new strings are introduced:

  • Cross device timer: Timer info from your home devices
  • Food delivery: Arrival status for food delivery
  • Ridesharing service: Show the status of your ride
Source: 9to5Google

As you can see by their descriptions, these will show timer info from your home devices, such as a Nest hub or smart speakers you may have around the house, as well as show you the arrival status of food delivery apps such as Doordash and the status of your requested ride on Lyft or Uber. Although the timing of these coincides with the new “Live Notifications” feature announced by Apple for iOS 16, it is important to note that Google has been working on these features for quite some time now, with the Food delivery option in the works since at least April.

It is also important to note that while Pixel users would certainly welcome these new features, there is no guarantee that they will actually see the light of day, although we would definitely want them to. Nevertheless, let’s hope we see an announcement for these in a future Pixel Feature Drop, or better yet, for the public release of Android 13.
