As we roll into summer, the rumor mill for the next generation of Pixel hardware is really starting to kick into gear. In the last day, we’ve seen two significant (though, as always, unofficial) pieces of information surface regarding the Pixel 10 series: a claimed launch date pointing to another August debut, and what appear to be some leaked images of a Pixel 10 Pro prototype.

Another mid-August Pixel launch

According to fairly reliable leaker (via 9to5 Google) @MysteryLupin on X, Google is reportedly targeting Tuesday, August 13th, for the Pixel 10 series launch event. This is noteworthy because it would line up exactly with the date of last year’s Pixel 9 series debut, suggesting Google might be settling into this new late-summer rhythm for its flagship phone releases.

This claim gained further traction when Android Headlines confirmed the August 13th event date and added that pre-orders would also open then, with devices shipping on August 20th. That would be a slightly quicker turnaround than last year, when devices shipped on August 22nd.

Interestingly, this reported August date comes despite an earlier invitation to select Pixel “Superfans” for a “sneak preview” of upcoming devices in London at the end of June. While that sparked some speculation of a much earlier launch, this August 13th information, if accurate, suggests the June event is likely just a very early, exclusive teaser rather than the main launch.

A first look at the Pixel 10 Pro prototype

Adding more substance to the Pixel 10 discussions, photos of what’s claimed to be a “DVT1.0” (Design Verification Test) prototype of the Pixel 10 Pro have also leaked, reshared by Mystic Leaks (via 9to5 Google) from a Chinese social media platform called “coolapk”.

Based on these images, the Pixel 10 Pro seems to be sporting a look that’s largely familiar, with only subtle refinements from what we expect with the Pixel 9 Pro. The screenshots show the device running Android 16 (not a QPR1 build) with a pre-Material 3 Expressive “About phone” page. Key design observations from the prototype include:

  • The USB-C port at the bottom is now flanked by identical cutouts, presumably for the speaker and microphone.
  • The SIM card tray has been relocated to the top left edge, fitting into what was the Pixel 9 Pro’s antenna cutout, and appears quite wide.
  • The camera bar, while maintaining the same general design, looks to be thicker than the current generation’s, and its cover glass extends closer to the metal perimeter edge. (The article notes it’s unclear if the main body is thinner).

Internally, an app on the prototype revealed some specs: the codename “blazer,” 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. It also provided a glimpse at the “Tensor G5” core configuration: 2x Cortex-A520, 3x Cortex-A725, another 2x Cortex-A725, and 1x Cortex-X4.

Intriguingly, Mystic Leaks pointed out that the chip was listed as “5nm,” which would be unexpected as the Tensor G5 is anticipated to be built on a 3nm process. Additionally, the modem is identified as “g5400i,” suggesting a continued partnership with Samsung for the modem rather than a switch to MediaTek, which had been previously rumored.

What this means for the Pixel 10 series

While these are early leaks, they start to paint a picture. The TSMC-made Tensor G5 is expected to be the most significant upgrade for the Pixel 10 lineup. The design, as hinted by both the prototype and earlier information about the series, appears to be largely iterative from the Pixel 9 family. However, there are still expectations and hints of display improvements, new color options, and potentially “major camera changes” for the series.

The August 13th date, if it holds, would solidify Google’s new, earlier launch cadence. It seems Google might be focusing its big generational leaps for the Pixel 10 on internal power and AI capabilities driven by the new Tensor chip, while refining a design that will be established with the Pixel 9.

Of course, these are still unofficial reports and early prototype details, so things can certainly change. But the Pixel 10 season is undeniably starting to warm up, and an August reveal would mean we don’t have too long to wait for official news.
