Since all the way back in September, the password manager in Chrome has been broken for many folks.
For me, this service has been the primary location I’ve stored passwords for the past few years. The inability to access those passwords has been pretty terrible, but it looks to be resolved now!
We reported back in mid-November that this issue looked to be solved in the Developer channel of Chrome OS. While that was promising, the truth is I don’t operate in the Developer Channel for work. It is too buggy and inconsistent, so the fix we talked about at that point didn’t really help me on a daily basis.
A Long-Lasting Bug
To be honest, I’d found ways to work around it for so long that I didn’t even check for the fix when my Chromebook updated to 55. I actually didn’t even give it a thought until yesterday.
When I needed to look up a password, I almost clicked on the ‘forgot password’ link to start the process of resetting my password. In a quick bit of curiosity, I figured I’d give the password manager a look.
And it worked!!
All my passwords loaded in, were searchable, and viewable. All of them. No frozen screen, no Developer Channel, no workarounds…it just worked!
This bug has been a significant bummer for me, personally and it has taken far too long to get corrected.
However, I am so happy to say it is in the rear-view with the arrival of Chrome OS 55.
For that I’m grateful and very happy to share this news with all our readers.
If you’ve had this issue, will you leave a comment and let us know if 55 resolved your issue? Thanks!
