There are a handful of Chromebooks that I will recommend without hesitation whenever a good deal comes along, and the Acer Chromebook Plus 516 GE is right at the very top of that list. It’s one of my favorite Chromebooks of all time, so when I see a price drop this massive, I have to make sure as many people know about it as possible.
And this deal is absolutely wild. Right now, you can get this fantastic Chromebook for a massive $300 off its regular price, bringing it down to just $349 at Best Buy. For a device this capable, that price is an absolute steal.
Why this is one of the best Chromebooks you can buy
The list of things the Acer Chromebook Plus 516 GE gets right is incredibly long, and the list of downsides is remarkably short. It all starts with the screen. The large 16-inch QHD+ (2560×1600) 16:10 display is a joy to use for everything from work to gaming. It’s bright, sharp, and thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate, everything on it is buttery smooth.
But the excellence doesn’t stop there. For a 16-inch device, it’s still relatively light at just 3.75 pounds, and the chassis is rigid and well-built. You also get loud, full-sounding upward-firing speakers, a huge and silky-smooth OceanGlass trackpad, and a fantastic, backlit RGB keyboard that is a dream to type on.
Add in a vast selection of ports and fast internals (Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of NVMe storage), and you have a complete package that is a pleasure to use. Sure, this Chromebook doesn’t have a touchscreen, and that is truly one of its only flaws – if you can even call it that. But let’s be realistic: when you are getting this many high-end, premium features for just $349, the lack of a touchscreen becomes an incredibly easy trade-off to make.
For anyone in the market for a powerful, large-screen Chromebook that cuts no corners on the core user experience, this is what I’d consider a must-buy situation. It’s rare anyone buys this Chromebook and comes away disappointed. It really is just that good, and at this price, it’s one of the best deals you’ll find anywhere.
