The day we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived! After months of tracking leaks, analyzing rumors, and speculating about the future of Google’s immersive computing platform, Samsung officially unveiled its Galaxy XR headset last night. We no longer have to refer to this device as “Project Moohan”; the real name is here, along with the official specs, price, and availability. And yes, the Samsung Galaxy XR is officially the first device built on the Android XR platform.
Samsung Galaxy XR official specs, price, and availability
Let’s get right to the brass tacks. The Samsung Galaxy XR is available now in the US and Korea via Samsung.com and Samsung Experience Stores for $1,799. Samsung is also offering 12 or 24-month financing options. Demos will also be available in select Samsung and Google Stores if you want to try before you buy.
For that price, you’re getting a spec sheet that confirms many of the leaks we’ve been reporting and clearly positions this as a high-end competitor to the Apple Vision Pro:

- Chip: Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2
- Memory/Storage: 16GB RAM / 256GB Storage
- Tracking: High-res pass-through cameras, world-tracking cameras, eye-tracking cameras, and depth sensors for hand, eye, and voice control. Supports iris recognition for unlocking

- Battery Life: Up to 2 hours of general use, 2.5 hours of video playback. Can be used while charging

The Android XR experience
This device is our first real look at Android XR, the new operating system co-developed by Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm, described by Google as the “first Android platform built entirely for the Gemini era.” It’s designed to blend digital content with your physical surroundings, allowing seamless switching between fully immersive VR and mixed reality pass-through.
Google and Samsung highlighted optimized versions of core apps like YouTube (with a new spatial tab), Google Maps (with Immersive View), Google Photos (with automatic 2D to 3D spatialization), Chrome, Meet (with new avatars), and Google TV. Samsung also specifically called out Netflix as being available, noting they are the “only XR device with it.”

Critically, the platform also supports standard Android apps from the Play Store right out of the box, alongside new, dedicated “Made for XR” experiences from partners like Adobe (Project Pulsar), Calm, and game studios like Resolution Games.
And, of course, we can’t forget about Gemini. Google’s AI is deeply integrated at the system level, framed as an “AI companion” rather than just an assistant. It uses the headset’s cameras and sensors to understand your surroundings and context, allowing for conversational interactions about what you’re seeing (“What’s the story behind this building?” while looking at the Colosseum in Maps), contextual help within apps (like asking for gaming tips in Stardew Valley), and even commands like organizing your virtual workspace (“Hey Google, organize these windows”). Features like Circle to Search also work in both virtual and real-world views via hand gestures.

Launch offer: The Explorer Pack
To sweeten the deal, Samsung is including “The Explorer Pack” (worth over $1,000) for those who purchase by the end of 2025. This bundle includes 12 months of Google AI Pro, YouTube Premium, and Google Play Pass. US buyers also get a 3-month trial of YouTube TV for $1/month and the 2025-2026 NBA League Pass season. You’ll also get access to specific XR apps like NFL PRO ERA, Adobe’s Project Pulsar, Asteroid, and Calm. Optional accessories like a travel case and controllers are available, and prescription lens inserts can be purchased separately.
Just the beginning
This is just a quick rundown of the official launch details from last night’s event. There’s a lot to unpack here, from the hardware to the potential of the Android XR platform and its deep AI integration. We’ll be diving much deeper into our thoughts and analysis very soon, but for now, the Android XR era has officially begun!
