If you’ve been using AI Mode in Google Search recently, things are about to get a lot faster and a whole lot smarter. Google has officially announced that its latest model, Gemini 3 Flash, is now rolling out globally as the default engine for AI Mode.

The goal here is simple: bring the “PhD-level” reasoning of the Gemini 3 family to Search at the breakneck speed we’ve all come to expect from a Google query.

More nuance, less waiting

The switch to Gemini 3 Flash means AI Mode is now better at handling those long, nuanced questions where you have a list of specific constraints. Because it’s built for low latency, it can parse complex queries like planning a multi-city trip or explaining atmospheric rivers to a child and give you a structured, visually organized response in seconds.

“Thinking with 3 Pro” option comes to the U.S.

While Flash is the new default for everyone, users in the U.S. are getting an even more powerful option. You can now toggle the model drop-down in AI Mode to “Thinking with 3 Pro”.

This gives you access to Gemini 3 Pro, which is designed for your absolute toughest questions. When you use this mode, Search doesn’t just give you text; it can generate dynamic visual layouts with interactive tools and simulations on the fly to help you visualize complex topics.

Nano Banana Pro: State-of-the-art image generation

As part of this “Pro” expansion, Google is also bringing Nano Banana Pro (the image-generation arm of Gemini 3 Pro) directly into Search for U.S. users.

By selecting “Create Images Pro” within the model menu, you can generate incredibly high-fidelity visuals. What makes Nano Banana Pro special isn’t just the realism—it’s the real-world knowledge. Because it’s connected to Google Search, it can generate factually accurate infographics, detailed isometric drawings, and technical explainers with legible text.

Availability

  • Gemini 3 Flash: Rolling out globally now as the default for AI Mode.
  • Gemini 3 Pro & Nano Banana Pro: Available now in the U.S. via the AI Mode model menu.
  • Subscribers: If you are a Google AI Pro or Ultra subscriber, you’ll get higher usage limits for these new Pro models.

It’s an impressive step forward for Search, moving it further away from a list of links and closer to a proactive, visual research assistant.
