Google Pixel Watch 5 surfaces at the FCC with some unexpected cellular twists

While we are still a couple of months away from Google’s traditional hardware showcase window, the regulatory filings that always precede a major device launch are starting to lift the veil on what’s coming next for the wrists of those in the Google Pixel ecosystem. According to initial documentation spotted by Droid Life, the upcoming Google Pixel Watch 5 has officially crossed through the FCC registration pipeline.

While these technical carrier listings rarely give away design details or aesthetic overhauls, the regulatory data left behind by the engineering team raises some massive structural questions about how Google plans to position its next wearable generation.

Going entirely cellular across the board

Historically, navigating a smartwatch purchase meant weighing a clear financial compromise: you could buy a cheaper, Wi-Fi-only model that tethered off your phone, or spend an extra premium to get an LTE-equipped variant that carried its own network connection.

The Pixel Watch 5 documentation turns that standard framework on its head. The FCC repository lists four distinct model variants under the code designations G25QD, G1XJ6, G0F3Y, and GFW3R. The twist? Every single one of those four registered devices is explicitly certified to operate on both Wi-Fi and LTE carrier bands.

If this documentation represents the entirety of the retail lineup Google intends to ship this fall, it means the traditionally affordable, Wi-Fi-only tier is missing from the equation entirely.

A hint at a premium Pro model

Having four separate models that all feature cellular capabilities leaves us with two distinct possibilities. Either some critical Wi-Fi-only regulatory entries are temporarily delayed in the system, or Google is splitting its sizing layout into a dual-tier architecture.

If all four models carry LTE connectivity, it strongly hints at a strategy shift mimicking what Samsung has established with the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Instead of offering small and large sizes of a singular base watch, Google could be prepping two sizes of a standard Pixel Watch 5 alongside two corresponding sizes of a more rugged, premium “Pro” or “Ultra” tier.

Splitting the lineup into standard and pro variants would neatly explain why four distinct cellular models need independent carrier clearance at the exact same time.

Seeing a wearable hit the FCC is historically the ultimate indicator that final mass production is locked in and a public reveal is right around the corner. If Google sticks to the accelerated mid-summer release cadence it established during the previous couple hardware cycles, we could see the official debut of the Pixel Watch 5 series as early as this August.
