Google just announced a new feature for Google Photos called “Video Remix.” It’s an automated editing tool built to help you transform standard video clips into more stylized, shareable moments without needing to spend hours in a complicated editing suite.
The tool lives inside the “Create” tab in Google Photos and is powered by Google’s Gemini Omni model. Instead of forcing you to manually tweak sliders, Video Remix relies on a library of templates to do the heavy lifting. You can instantly apply cinematic relighting to fix a dark video, swap out a boring background for something more interesting, or apply full artistic filters like watercolor, oil painting, or a raw sketchbook effect.
And I think this is a fantastic addition to Google Photos. If you’re like me, you have a ton of video clips just sitting there that you never look at because I know that editing them is going to take time. Having a quick, one-tap way to make those clips look polished or fun is a great use of Google’s AI models!
But there is one kicker, and it comes down to availability. While the feature starts rolling out today, Google is locking Video Remix behind its paid tiers. To use it, you’ll need to be an active subscriber to Google AI Plus, Pro, or Ultra.
Video Remix is available in Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Turkey, and the US.
