The summer hardware season is heating up quickly. While we usually have to wait until late August to see what Google has been cooking up for its flagship smartphone lineup, the company is accelerating its timeline once again.
According to media invites sent out this morning, Google has officially scheduled its next major Made by Google hardware event. The showcase will take place on Wednesday, August 12, live from New York City.
An unexpected evening keynote
Interestingly, while the calendar date is about a week earlier than last year’s Pixel 10 launch, the actual time of the keynote is seeing a massive shift. Instead of the traditional morning or early afternoon slot, Google is hosting this event in the evening, kicking things off at 6:00 PM ET (3:00 PM PT).
The brief teaser animation included with the invites doesn’t give away the entire farm, but it prominently features a shiny gold metal frame and a familiar horizontal camera visor, accompanied by a tagline teasing the “next generation of Pixel.”
Expanding the Pixel hardware family
The star of the show will undoubtedly be the new smartphone lineup, which is largely expected to feature four distinct models this year: the standard Pixel 11, the Pixel 11 Pro, a larger Pixel 11 Pro XL, and the revamped Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Early leaks suggest we might see slimmer bezels across the board, a solid black camera bar on the base model, and a slightly thinner overall profile for the Pro and Fold variants.
Alongside the phones, we are fully expecting to see the debut of the Pixel Watch 5 series. If recent rumors hold true, Google will once again offer the wearable in two distinct sizes, and we might even see a refreshed pair of Pixel Buds Pro make an appearance to round out the mobile ecosystem.
Rumored features and potential price bumps
Beyond the physical hardware, there are two major talking points circulating ahead of the event. First, multiple sources are pointing toward the inclusion of the new “Pixel Glow” indicator on the back of the phones. We have already seen this dynamic lighting feature arrive on the new Googlebook and the latest Google Home Speaker, making its jump to the flagship smartphone lineup a very logical next step for Google’s hardware design language.
However, there might be a catch when it comes to pricing this year. Industry murmurs suggest that rising component costs (thanks a lot, AI) could push Google to raise the entry price. On the bright side, that price hike might be softened by rumors that the base Pixel 11 will finally drop the 128GB tier and start at a much more reasonable 256GB of storage out of the box. We’ll know more in just over a month from now.
