Google Meet makes its Gemini AI assistant way easier to find on the web

Google has been aggressively rolling out Gemini integrations across the entire Workspace suite over the past year, turning standard productivity apps into active, AI-driven collaboration spaces. But as everyone is starting to realize with all these AI features, a powerful agent is only useful if people can actually find it.

To fix a major discovery bottleneck, Google is officially rolling out a subtle but highly impactful interface tweak for the desktop experience: The “Ask Gemini” prompt box is moving to a much more prominent home in Google Meet on the web.

According to the official announcement on the Google Workspace Updates blog, the dedicated AI interface is migrating directly into the lower left-hand corner of the main video calling screen.

Removing the visibility barrier

When Ask Gemini in Meet initially launched, accessing your personal meeting assistant required a bit of intentional hunting. The feature was tucked away behind a small icon in the upper-right corner of the interface, only revealing itself when a user actively hovered over the button. For casual users or employees rushing into a call, it was incredibly easy to overlook.

By moving the prompt box to the bottom-left corner, Google is treating Gemini like a permanent, foundational fixture of the meeting room. It places the text input right in your natural line of sight, inviting users to actively interact with the AI throughout a presentation or team sync.

What Ask Gemini can do for you during a call

Aside from the physical location change on your screen, the core mechanics of the AI assistant remain completely unchanged. It continues to act as an incredibly powerful, real-time context engine for your meetings. As a reminder, you can leverage the persistent chat box to:

  • Get instant catch-ups: If you join a call late or get pulled away by a phone call, you can ask Gemini to instantly summarize what you missed (so long as the “Take Notes for Me” feature is active).
  • Track the agenda: Ask the AI for a quick brief on the central goals, current discussion topics, and structural path of the active meeting.
  • Log actionable data: Request a real-time running list of key takeaways, major group decisions, and specific action items assigned to team members during the conversation.

Rollout pace and domain availability

Because this is a pure cosmetic layout transition, there are absolutely no administrative backend toggles to worry about. If your domain already has Ask Gemini enabled, the new prompt box will automatically appear on the screen for your users.

Google kicked off a gradual rollout for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. The updated interface will dynamically propagate to all eligible business and enterprise accounts over the next two weeks. The feature is available globally for the following Workspace tiers:

  • Business: Standard and Plus
  • Enterprise: Standard and Plus

If your daily workflow relies heavily on virtual collaboration, keep an eye out for the new chat layout the next time you hop into a Google Meet session. It’s a small design shift, but one that makes accessing your AI meeting notes a whole lot faster.
