Google Calendar on the web gets new view controls for large monitors

If you spend your workday staring at a massive desktop display or ultrawide monitor, you’ve probably noticed that web applications don’t always scale gracefully. Google Calendar, in particular, can leave a lot of unused whitespace or force tiny event blocks that feel lost on a high-resolution screen.

Fortunately, Google is addressing desktop scaling with a fresh update. According to a new post on the Google Workspace Updates blog, Google Calendar on the web is introducing updated information density options designed to let users customize how the calendar grid scales across different monitor sizes.

Three density modes for every display setup

Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, users can now choose from three distinct layout behaviors inside the Appearance settings menu in Calendar:

• Responsive to your screen: The new default scaling mode dynamically enlarges calendar events and expands the grid layout to fill larger monitors, making text significantly easier to read across wide screens.
• Comfortable: Keeps the traditional, classic Google Calendar layout with standard spacing regardless of screen resolution or display size.
• Compact: Condenses grid lines and tightens spacing, maximizing text density so you can see as many overlapping events and appointments as possible at a glance.

Whether you prefer a sweeping view that fills every inch of a 32-inch 4K monitor or a hyper-dense schedule view for managing a busy calendar, these new toggles make fitting the UI to your desktop setup much cleaner.

Rollout pace and availability

The updated density options carry no admin controls and are available directly to end users on the web version of Google Calendar.

The feature begins rolling out today, July 29, 2026, for Rapid Release domains as an extended rollout (which may take longer than 15 days for full visibility). Scheduled Release domains will begin seeing the options starting August 10, 2026.

The new density settings are launching globally and will be available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.
