“Power Bookmarks” is Google’s latest attempt to modernize Chrome’s traditional bookmarking system, whether its users want such a thing or not. It’s not only going to combine more interactive elements like Google Shopping products and price discount tags but also all of your Tab Groups, essentially turning them into bookmarks themselves.
Per our friend Leopeva 64 on Twitter, a new sorting dropdown arrow is being built into the Chrome browser’s Side Panel to allow users to change the order bookmarks are listed. Once it rolls out, you will be able to sort by date added or by their name both in ascending and descending order.

At the current time, you can only sort by the name of the bookmark, which for all intents and purposes is quite limiting. Despite this, most users have never asked for additional features, and the fact that the company is even toying with such an idea is sure to anger many.
More than anything, I’m interested to see how Power Bookmarks will evolve over time. In my opinion, it looks like Google has learned its lesson and is being a lot more cautious with how it proceeds. The essence of bookmarks is being preserved, and instead of trying to change them at their core, it’s adding features on top of them that can benefit users by providing them with more autonomy and information without forcing them to interact with those additions.
