Google’s partnership with ADT will begin taking form in Q3 of next year

When the Nest Secure was discontinued in October without a successor in sight, we had sneaking suspicions that it could be the result of Google’s upcoming partnership with security company ADT. However, until now, we haven’t heard much about what that could look like or when exactly it would roll out. In a new interview with CNBC, the CEO of ADT, Jim DeVries said that they will “roll out with Google products in the third quarter of 2021.” You can watch the interview below if you’re interested.

That means that we could see ADT devices powered by Google’s machine learning capabilities that are branded as “ADT + Google” at any time between July and September, thanks to their seven-year agreement with Google. The search giant has not formally announced any new Nest products that will integrate ADT technology and we found it odd that they would nix the Nest Secure so soon before their partnership publicly bore fruit.

The Secure is still very popular and with no successor on the market, and with the device itself becoming ‘no longer available’ on the Google Store, users have nothing to upgrade to during this lapse. I love my Nest Secure and can’t wait to see what they come up with as they lock arms with ADT, but it’s going to be a while before we hear exactly what that will look like. All I will say is that with two for-profit companies working together on a product, I hope they find a way to maintain competitive pricing and entice buyers instead of repelling them.

For those of us who still have a Nest Secure, Google has committed to supporting the device for the foreseeable future, but they will no longer be adding new features to it. My guess is that once people start to buy into the new ADT products, it will be a better time to send the Secure off into the sunset. What are your thoughts on the ADT + Google partnership?
