Acer very quietly launched 6 new Chromebooks, including a tablet

Just a couple weeks ago, we reported on a new Acer Chromebook Plus 516 that looks all set to arrive at basically any point now. Not only was it listed on the Chromium Dash site, it was also already showing up on cros.tech and had a model name confirmed as well. Manufacturers don’t do that sort of thing too long before an official release.

I initially set out to write this post about the fact that I stumbled upon a landing page for the Acer Chromebook Plus 516 and was excited to give everyone what I thought would be an early look at this enticing new entry from Acer. Wanting to do a tad bit more digging before writing, however, I came across a whopping 2 posts on the entire internet all about Acer launching not just a couple new Chromebooks, but 5 new Plus models alongside the tablet they announced at BETT 2025. What??

A bit of communication breakdown

After seeing these two posts, I looked for more and found no other sources on this new barrage of devices from Acer, so the communication train broke down somewhere along the way. Usually we hear directly from Acer on any and every new Chromebook release well before it happens, so I’m unsure what went down this time around. It seems the news didn’t make it to many others, either.

For now, the two posts about these new devices are fairly limited on information outside of the standard specs we expect to see for the internals, ports and screens. I’ll break down what was “announced” below, but it doesn’t look like these Chromebooks will arrive until May 2025, so there’s time for proper review units and full specs to surface before you’ll be able to buy any one of them. The report from MSN does include a few specs that should carry across the lineup, including:

• WUXGA (1900 x 1200) anti-glare display with 300-nit brightness and a 16:10 aspect ratios,
• Fingerprint scanner
• 2X USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports
• 2X USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports,
• Full-size HDMI port
• Up to 16GB of RAM
• Up to 512GB of NVMe SSD storage
• Optional touchscreen
• Backlit keyboard

Obviously, these specs will vary between the consumer and Enterprise versions, and we have no information at the moment what the models that end up in stores like Best Buy will actually offer or where their price points will land. Both reports have the new 514 and 516 lines starting at €479, so we’ll need to wait and see what that translates into for the US market and others. You can find the models broken down below:

• Acer Chromebook Plus 516: (standard and Enterprise versions) Up to an Intel Core 7 processor with a 16” WUXGA display and a FHD webcam.
• Acer Chromebook Plus 514 (standard and Enterprise versions): Up to Intel Core 7 processor with a 14” WUXGA display, QHD webcam and up to 17 hour battery life.
• Acer Chromebook Plus 514: Intel Core 3 N355 processor with a 14” WUXGA display and FHD webcam.
• Acer Chromebook Tab 311: MediaTek Kompanio 520, 8GB RAM, 128GB of storage and a 10.95-inch WUXGA IPS display (announced at BETT 2025).

We’ve reached out to Acer to get more complete details on all the new devices, and we’ll obviously be doing unboxings and reviews once we can get our hands on any of them. For now, it’s just nice to see Acer dropping a few new Chromebooks into the mix that look like they might be very competent, and pretty affordable as well.
