It’s been just over a week since the massive, frustrating blackout of all 21 Disney-owned channels (including ESPN, ABC, and FX) on YouTube TV. While subscribers have been left in the dark, anxiously waiting for a resolution, it appears the compensation Google promised is about to arrive.
When the channels first disappeared, Google stated that if the blackout lasted for an “extended period of time,” it would issue a $20 credit to subscribers. Now, according to a new report from The Athletic (via 9to5 Google), that “extended period” is ending, and the credits are set to roll out.
The report states that YouTube TV will begin issuing the $20 credit to subscribers starting tomorrow, November 9, if a last-minute deal is not reached with Disney. All subscribers should expect to receive the credit, which can be redeemed toward their next billing statement, no later than November 12.
This news comes as other reports indicate Disney is preparing its employees for at least another week without its channels on the service, despite taking a noticeable hit in viewership last week.
While negotiations are reportedly still ongoing as of Saturday, this move to issue the credit signals that a quick resolution isn’t likely. It’s still unclear if this $20 will be a one-time credit or if it will be issued monthly should the dispute drag on.
Obviously, a $20 credit isn’t the solution anyone wants—subscribers just want to get their channels back. But at least it’s a small bit of good news that Google is apparently making good on its promise of compensation. If you’re a subscriber, be sure to check your inbox for that credit starting tomorrow.
