Last month, Google formally introduced YouTube Creator Music to the masses after a lengthy Beta period. Creator Music is a new location within YouTube Studio that provides access to a growing selection of music for creators to use in their long-form videos. Creators can now buy licenses for these tracks at reasonable prices in order to maximize monetization and keep the same revenue share as on videos without music.
However, the announcement last month didn’t actually remove Creator Music from Beta and was still not accessible to the majority of YouTube creators. That has now changed, as Google has announced via a post that the rollout to monetizing creators in the U.S. will begin over the coming weeks and continue to expand to more countries in 2023.
As YouTube expands Creator Music to more users, it is also continuing to add more music and provide new music-related features to all creators. However, at this time, it remains locked to creators that are part of the YouTube Partner Program. Creator Music licenses allow one YouTube long-form video per song and are not eligible for use during live streams. The below video should explain more should you be interested in the program.
It’s good to see YouTube finding ways to help its creators earn revenue. The recent changes they’ve made to their monetization rules should also be a big help to those with smaller channels that are struggling to be seen and therefore capitalize on their efforts.
