When Google unveiled its new AI-powered video creation tool Google Vids earlier this year, one of the most promising features announced was the ability to leverage your existing content. Many of us have countless Google Slides presentations from past projects, meetings, and reports just sitting in our Drive.
Today, Google is starting to roll out the feature that lets you breathe new life into that old content by importing it directly into Google Vids in a brilliant move that dramatically lowers the barrier to creating a new video by giving everyone a perfect starting point.
How to turn your slides into a vid
According to the announcement on the Google Workspace Updates blog, the process is very straightforward. When you go to create a new video in Google Vids, you’ll now see an option to “Import Slides”. From there, you can browse and select the Slides presentation you want to use and even choose the specific slides you want to bring over.
Vids will then take the text, images, and other elements from each of your selected slides and automatically create individual “scenes” for your video project. Easy-peasy!

The magic happens after the import
This is where the real power comes in. Importing your slides isn’t the end of the process; it’s the beginning. Once your content is laid out in Vids as individual scenes, you can use all of Vids’ AI-powered tools to transform your static presentation into a dynamic video.
You can add animations to your objects, apply different styles, choose a narrator, and even generate brand new AI video clips with Veo 3 to place between your imported slide content. It’s a fantastic workflow that lets you combine your existing, human-created content with a sprinkle of AI magic to produce a polished final video.
Availability and roll-out
This first iteration of the “Import from Slides” feature is starting to roll out now. To use it, you’ll need to have access to Google Vids, which is available for most Google Workspace plans and users with a Gemini for Workspace or Google One AI Premium add-on. The rollout is gradual, so it may take up to 15 days to appear for all eligible users.
For anyone who has wanted to try Google Vids but wasn’t sure where to start, this is the perfect on-ramp. By allowing users to build upon the work they’ve already done in Google Slides, Google is making its newest creation tool feel instantly more accessible, practical, and powerful.
