Ever since Walmart released their first Google TV streamer back in May 2023, we’ve consistently recommended the Onn brand over the Chromecast. But lately, the lineup has gotten a bit messy. Right now, the cheaper Onn 4K Plus actually outperforms the “flagship” Onn 4K Pro in raw speed. Fortunately, a new report from AFTVnews suggests that Walmart might be prepping a successor to fix this problem.
According to the report, the Onn 4K Pro is showing classic signs of a product reaching the end of its life. First, it has been on a seemingly permanent discount for months—a rarity for Walmart’s already low-margin devices. More importantly, stock is drying up.
I checked my local area and found that most stores are either out of stock or show low stock. If you look back to late 2022/early 2023, we saw this exact pattern right before the 2nd-gen Onn 4K box launched. If history repeats itself, we could see a new model by mid-year.
With Google pushing new Gemini AI capabilities for the living room, a powerful new box with far-field microphones would be the perfect device for those features. While nothing is official, I’m hopeful that a faster, smarter successor is on the way!
