While Diablo Immortal has received a lot of negative attention since it was announced at Blizzcon 2018, (Do YoU gUyS nOt HaVe PhOnEs?), we believe that it deserves a chance. It can find a great home on Chromebooks which are personal computers if they just add keyboard and mouse support. Anyways, that’s a conversation for another day. If you’re looking forward to Diablo Immortal as much as I am, you can play the original Diablo while you wait. Oh yeah, you can do it right through your web browser!

Diablo is an action role-playing hack and slash game which was released in 1997 where you control a lone hero battling to rid the world of Diablo, the Lord of Terror. Beneath the town of Tristram, the player fights through sixteen randomly generated dungeons and makes their way to hell to slay Diablo, which literally means devil in Spanish. My kind of game!

Diablo Running on a Chromebook

This web based port was uploaded by Rivsoft and is restricted to just the Warrior class, the first two levels of the dungeon and a select few NPCs to talk to while restricting the rest unless you own an original copy of the game. If you do, you can upload the DIABDAT.MPQ file by drag and drop in order to unlock access to everything. If you don’t though, you can buy a licensed copy from GOG using the button below. With it, you’ll also get access to ‘Hellfire’, Diablo’s expansion pack. Being that you’ll be using this on a Chromebook, you’ll need to extract the MPQ file yourself using the Linux terminal if you’re brave enough to follow the instructions. Who knows, maybe we’ll have our own Linux master Gabe do a full tutorial on this in the near future.

Drag and Drop Your License

We found that it works better with a mouse than it does with a touch screen and in order to move the character, you’ll need to press and click the touchpad of your Chromebook even if you have tap to click turned on. Will you be trying out the original Diablo through your web browser? Let us know in the comments section below!
