Until recently, Chromebook user with Skype accounts were limited to sending and receiving written messages only. The Microsoft company had recently pledged to offer “truly plugin-free VoIP calls”. It appears that they are holding true to their word. You can now make voice calls via Skype’s web-based service on Chromebooks and Chrome OS devices.
Our friends over at OMG!Chrome! reported earlier this week that one of their readers had stumbled upon the update when accessing Skype on their Chrome device. While there is still no video calling support, this is definitely a step forward for one of the largest IM and video calling platforms in the world.
