Let’s be honest: dealing with voicemails in 2025 can feel like a chore. Between spam calls and the time it takes to listen to a message, it’s often an inefficient way to communicate. In a fantastic new update, Google is rolling out a feature on the Pixel 10 series called “Take a Message” that uses the best of its conversational AI to offer a far smarter way to handle your missed or declined calls.
This new feature is the perfect combination of two of the Pixel’s most beloved calling tools—Call Screen and Call Notes—to create the modern, intelligent voicemail system we’ve all been wanting all along.
How ‘Take a Message’ works
The process is simple but incredibly powerful. First, the feature runs entirely on-device and uses the same powerful spam detection model as Call Screen, filtering out the junk so you only have to deal with messages from legitimate callers.
For those real calls that you miss or have to decline, “Take a Message” then creates a real-time transcript of the voice message as it’s being left. This lets you quickly read the message at a glance instead of having to stop what you’re doing to listen to it.
Finally, after the call is over, the feature uses AI—just like the Call Notes feature—to generate suggested next steps. This ensures you don’t miss any critical details, like a phone number to call back or an appointment time to add to your calendar.
“Take a Message” is a brilliant and practical new addition to the Pixel 10’s software arsenal. It’s the logical evolution of the Pixel’s calling experience, taking the best parts of existing features and combining them to solve an everyday annoyance. As it has done in the past, Google is leveraging their smartphone capabilities on Pixel to do genuinely useful things that make users want to stick around, and this latest perk is now available on all of the new Pixel 10 phones.
