Google’s NotebookLM has quickly become one of the most powerful and innovative AI-powered learning tools available today. One of its standout features, Video Overviews, can transform your static notes and documents into engaging, narrated explainer videos. But until now, this powerful feature has been off-limits for younger students.
In a fantastic and very welcome update, Google has announced that Video Overviews in NotebookLM are now available to Google Workspace for Education users of all ages.
What are Video Overviews? A quick recap
For those who haven’t had a chance to try it, the Video Overviews feature is a bit of AI magic. You can take your documents, slides, charts, and other source materials and have NotebookLM automatically create a “visual walkthrough” of the content, complete with an AI-narrated voiceover.
The AI is smart enough to pull in relevant images, diagrams, quotes, and numbers directly from your source material to create a visually engaging and easy-to-digest video summary. You can even customize the video by specifying topics to focus on or describing the target audience. It’s an incredible tool for turning dense study materials into a more dynamic learning experience.
A powerful new tool for all students
By expanding access to students of all ages, Google is putting one of its best learning tools into the hands of the users who can benefit from it the most. Students under 18 can now use Video Overviews to create more engaging study guides, review complex topics in a new visual way, and share their learning with others.
For any schools concerned about privacy, Google has confirmed that for all Workspace for Education users, NotebookLM is covered by the standard Terms of Service and includes enterprise-grade data protection, meaning student data is not used to train AI models. The feature is available now for all eligible Workspace for Education accounts with access to NotebookLM.
