If you use NotebookLM, you know the magic: you dump in a dozen PDFs, transcripts, and notes, and it instantly becomes an expert on your data. But until now, getting that data out of NotebookLM in a structured way was a bit of a manual chore.
That changes today. Google is introducing Data Tables, a new feature that lets NotebookLM synthesize your sources into clean, organized tables that you can export directly to Google Sheets.
Organizing the chaos
As Google points out, valuable information is rarely neat. It’s usually scattered across multiple pages or buried in a 40-minute meeting transcript. Data Tables solves this by doing the “tedious manual compilation” for you. Here are a few ways this actually changes your workflow:
- Business: Turn a messy meeting transcript into a structured table of action items, owners, and priority levels.
- Market Research: Build a side-by-side competitor comparison analyzing pricing, features, and strategies across different companies.
- Education: Create study guides for history or science that organize events by date, key figures, and consequences.
- Travel: Stop flipping between tabs and let NotebookLM build a vacation planner comparing destinations, costs, and the best times to visit.
The Google Sheets connection
The real winner here is the export functionality. Being able to take an AI-generated synthesis and move it into Google Sheets means you can immediately start applying formulas, sharing it with a team, or turning it into a chart. It takes NotebookLM from being a “thinking tool” to a “doing tool.”
Availability
Data Tables are rolling out starting now for all Pro and Ultra users. If you are on the free tier, don’t worry—Google says it will be coming to everyone in the upcoming weeks.
