As Robby has stated on multiple occasions, it’s officially silly season for upcoming Chrome devices. Today brings another welcome addition to a relatively small percentage of Skylake-based Chromebooks.
We have been tracking ‘Cave’ for about as long as any device and we are hoping that we will see this convertible previewed sometime very, very soon. With only 2 Skylake devices currently on the market, the HP 13 G1 and Lenovo ThinkPad Chromebook 13, we are anxious to see more of what Intel’s Core processor is capable of.
While we’re waiting for ‘Cave’, another device has popped up out of nowhere in the repositories. ‘Caroline’ is a new Chromebook being developed with ‘Glados’, the same Skylake baseboard as the above mentioned machines.
The overlays for ‘Caroline’ have been added rather quickly and the developers are copying a lot of the basic supports from ‘Cave’.
I have yet to find anything pointing to or away from this being a convertible device. But, as we have seen, this is the going ticket right now.
You can check out a few commits below showing the basics of this new Skylake-based Chromebook.
As I dig a little deeper I will be sure to update any findings on our new friend, ‘Caroline’. More and more devices coming every day.
Exciting, isn’t it?
Don’t forget to join us for Google’s live stream event October 4th. Should be a very interesting time, to say the least.
