We have all been there: you are hunting for a specific item—maybe a hot holiday toy or a specific beauty product—and you aren’t sure which local store actually has it in stock. The only solution used to be spending an hour calling around, sitting on hold, and asking the same question over and over.
Well, Google is rolling out a new “agentic” feature in the U.S. that handles that tedious legwork for you. You can now ask Google to call local businesses on your behalf to gather information about inventory, discounts, and more.
How to put Google to work
This new capability lives right inside Google Search. Here is how to use it:
- Search with intent: Search for a specific product (like electronics, toys, or health items) and add “near me” or “nearby” to your query.
- Tap the button: Scroll down until you see a new option that says “Let Google call” and select “Get started”.
- Refine your request: You’ll answer a short list of questions tailored to that product so Google knows exactly what to ask the store employees.
- Sit back and wait: Choose whether you want your report via text, email, or both.
Google’s AI agents will then make the calls to relevant local businesses for you. Once they are done, you receive a summary of who has what, saving you the hassle of picking up the phone yourself.
This is a prime example of AI moving from a simple chatbot to a helpful agent that can perform real-world tasks. It’s rolling out now in the U.S., just in time for the holiday shopping scramble.
