The highly anticipated HP Chromebook 13 G1 has made its debut and our first impressions are quite favorable. Just a few days ago our own Robby Payne unboxed this sleek, new machine in our office. Needless to say, we’ve been very excited about getting our hands on HP’s newest Chromebook, which sports Intel’s new line of Core M processors.
You can check Robby’s unboxing video here.
It seems getting your hands on HP’s much-sought-after Chromebook has been a lot easier said than done. Currently, The HP Store is out of stock on all of the Core M models and just yesterday made the Pentium model available again. They do, however, have a new configurable option which allows you to custom order your Chromebook 13 with either a QHD or FHD display as well as two different RAM options; depending on which processor you choose.
Great news, right?
Well, there’s a slight catch. The cost for customizing your new HP Chromebook 13 is almost double that of the pre-configured models.
That’s right. Double.
The base Pentium model with the 1080p display will set you back $951!
Why, you ask? We asked the same thing. Multiple times, to multiple sales representatives and consumer relations folks. As of the publication of this article we have received no response from HP. If money is no object for you and you want to drop over two grand on the M7 model, then you need not read any further. And, if you do, can you bring it by the Chrome Unboxed office? We would love to test it out.
All jokes aside, we have great news for the many consumers who have been asking where they can get their hands on these beautiful new machines. Unfortunately, until recently, a Google Reseller was your only option to purchase the HP Chromebook 13. The problem is technically, you would have to be an Enterprise Customer as these are being sold under the ‘Google for Work’ program.
But, we’ve done some digging and found a limited number of retailers that have machines in stock and ready to sell. Now, you might pay slightly more than the originally stated MSRP, but nowhere near HP’s configurable pricing structure. Listed below are the retailers we have found so far that carry the HP Chromebook 13 G1.
Supplies are limited but they’re out there. We will keep you up to date on how the HP Chromebook is doing and where to find it.
Robby is currently wrapping up his full review of the HP Chromebook 13 G1 and will have that posted very soon. So, check back and get the skinny and what this new HP machine is all about.
