Just last month, we were saw the arrival of Lyria 3, Google DeepMind’s impressive music generation model that allowed users to create 30-second tracks right inside the Gemini app. It was a fun bar trick that showed a lot of promise, but the short duration limits felt a bit like a teaser for something bigger.

Well, that something bigger has officially arrived. Google just announced Lyria 3 Pro, an advanced version of the model that pushes the boundaries of AI-generated music from short clips to full-blown compositions.

What’s New in Lyria 3 Pro?

While the standard model was great for jingles and social media snippets, this new Pro variant is designed for actual creative projects. Here are the highlights of the update:

  • Three-Minute Tracks: You are no longer limited to 30 seconds. Lyria 3 Pro can generate tracks up to three minutes long, making it viable for background music in longer videos, presentations, or even just personal listening.
  • Structural Awareness: This is the most impressive part. Lyria 3 Pro understands musical composition. You can now prompt for specific elements like intros, verses, choruses, and bridges, giving you much more control over how the song actually flows.
  • Creative Control: The model is better at following complex prompts for specific styles and instruments, allowing it to act more like a collaborative partner in the creative process.

Availability and Rollout

The rollout for Lyria 3 Pro began on March 25, 2026. It is currently available globally for users over the age of 18 in several languages, including English, Spanish, French, and Japanese.

If you are a Google Workspace user, here is how the availability breaks down:

  • Business/Enterprise: Available for Business Standard/Plus and Enterprise Standard/Plus.
  • Education: Available via the Google AI Pro for Education add-on.
  • Consumer: Available for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

To get started, just head into your Gemini app, open the tools menu, and select Create music. As this is just beginning to roll out, it may be a few days before you get the full ability of Lyria 3 Pro in your app of choice.

It’s clear that Google is moving fast to compete with other AI music tools, and seeing this jump from 30 seconds to 3 minutes in just one month is a testament to how quickly these models are evolving. It’s a massive upgrade for anyone looking to add custom soundtracks to their workflow, and further proof that Google’s AI is being positioned in nearly every way to compete with any other model out there.
