When Google first introduced Vids as its new AI-powered video creation tool for Workspace, the potential was clear. Just last month, they took a big step by integrating their Veo 2 model to generate custom video clips. But today, a new update is rolling out that could be a true game-changer for the service: Google Vids is now being powered by Veo 3, bringing the ability to generate higher-quality, 8-second video clips complete with realistic, synchronized sound and dialogue right within the service. With the quality of video being produced by Veo 3 taking the web by storm, this isn’t just an incremental improvement; it’s a massive step up that could transform how people use Vids for their work presentations and projects.

What makes Veo 3 in Vids so powerful

One of the key differences here is the addition of audio. Previously, generating a video clip meant you were getting silent B-roll footage. Now, with Veo 3, you can create a short, bespoke scene where characters actually speak the lines you provide in your prompt. This moves Google Vids from a simple video assembler into a mini AI-powered production studio. Google provided some fantastic examples of how this could be used:

  • For safety training: You could prompt, “A worker wearing a vibrant green neon safety vest… says directly to the camera, ‘Welcome to our field technician training…'” and get a custom intro video.
  • For product demos: Imagine prompting, “A spokesperson holding a solar powered flashlight at a campsite at dusk… says, ‘Hi, I’ll show you how to troubleshoot common issues…’”
  • For employee announcements: You could generate a quick clip of coworkers walking through an office, sharing their excitement about a new company benefit.

The ability to generate not just a visual scene but the accompanying dialogue is what makes this so incredibly useful. It allows for the creation of custom video assets that were previously impossible without hiring actors, finding a location, and filming.

How it works and what to expect

The process sounds straightforward. From within the Google Vids editor, you’ll navigate to the “Generate video” icon in the sidebar, select Veo 3, type in your detailed prompt, and click “Create.” You’ll get a preview, and if you like it, you can insert it directly into your Vid. It’s important to know the current specs for these generated clips:

  • They are 8 seconds long.
  • They are generated at 720p resolution and 24fps.
  • They are in a 16:9 landscape aspect ratio.

And if you just want the video without the AI-generated audio, you have the option to mute the clip after you insert it.

Rollout and availability

This powerful new feature began its gradual rollout to both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains on June 9, 2025, and it may take up to 15 days for it to appear for everyone.

It’s available for a wide range of Google Workspace customers, including most Business and Enterprise tiers, Nonprofits, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, and users with a Gemini for Workspace add-on.
